2 Cases of Auricular Perichondritis


Abstract
Auricular perichondritis is a rare condition that may be due to trauma such as endaural . incision for tympanoplasty, infected hematoma and -the extension of an infection from a furuncle etc. The most common causal organism is Pseudomonoas aeruginosa, but it is troublesome in oto¢¥.oZist.
It is characterized by severe pain in the ear, accompanied by a rise of temperature; the auricle rapidly becomes swollen and dusky in color and its normal contour is lost, the swelling apparent on both its surfaces. As the suppuration progresses, necrosis of the cartilage may take place, with the¢¥ result that the auricle finally shrivels.
The author have recently experienced two cases of auricular perichondritis which had been well treated with antibiotics.
